Amer fort: One of the Finest Architecture of Rajasthan
The fort is a gem on Jaipur’s crown. Every day, more than 5,000 tourists come to the fort to take in its regal beauty. Along with five other Rajasthani forts, the Amer fort has been added to the UNESCO world heritage list. The fort is a well-known historical site that exhibits Rajputana-style architecture. The music and light show and elephant rides, which attract thousands of visitors each day, are its most well-known attractions. The fort is a superb illustration of the Rajput painters’ and architects’ originality and skill. One of Rajasthan’s oldest forts, Amer Fort reveals much about the state’s illustrious past.
This palace is situated just above Jaigarh Fort on the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the same Aravalli range of hills, along with it. Due to their underground connection, the palace and Jaigarh fort are regarded as one compound. This tunnel was intended to serve as an escape route during times of war, allowing the royal family and others to go to the more fortified Jaigarh Fort.
History of Fort
Raja Alan Singh established the town of Amer in the tenth century, and the Rajputs initially started construction on the castle in the eleventh. However, the most of what is currently visible comes from the 16th and 17th centuries, when Raja Man Singh I oversaw the completion of significant projects. Although it is nominally a fort, the inside is largely palace-like.
Jai Singh I made it longer. Throughout the following 150 years, improvements and additions were made by succeeding kings, until the Kachwahas moved their headquarters to Jaipur in 1727 AD under Sawai Jai Singh II.
Amer Fort Architecture
Red and white sandstone were used in the construction of Amer fort. The fort is still an impressive display of traditional Indian construction. Amer Fort’s architecture is a stunning fusion of indigenous and Mughal traditions. While the subsequent extensions made by Mirza Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II show a greater Saracenic influence, the Palace of Maharaja Man Singh within the fort complex was built in the native style.
